چکیده

In this paper, we reflect on the design, development, and deployment of G-nome Surfer; a multi-touch tabletop user interface for collaborative exploration of genomic data. G-nome Surfer lowers the threshold for using advanced bioinformatics tools, reduces the mental workload associated with manipulating genomic information, and fosters effective collaboration. We describe our two-year-long effort from design strategy to iterations of design, development, and evaluation. This paper presents four main contributions: (1) a set of design requirements for supporting collaborative exploration in data-intensive domains, (2) the design, implementation, and validation of a multi-touch tabletop interface for collaborative exploration, (3) a methodology for evaluating the strengths and limitations of tabletop interaction for collaborative exploration, and (4) empirical evidence for the feasibility and value of integrating tabletop interaction in college-level education. & 2012 Elsevier Ltd. G-nome Surfer: a Tabletop Interface for Collaborative Exploration of Genomic Visualization

We present G-nome Surfer, a multi-user, multi-touch table for collaborative exploration of genomic information. G-nome Surfer has been developed for a population of scientists who frequently meet in small groups for data exploration. To scaffold hypothesis forming, G-nome Surfer allows users to compare, annotate, share, and relate heterogeneous data including genome visualizations, publications...

Collaborative music interaction on tabletops: an HCI approach

With the advent of tabletop interaction, collaborative activities are better supported than they are on single-user PCs because there exists a physical shareable space, and interaction with digital data is more embodied and social. In sound and music computing, collaborative music making has traditionally been done using interconnected networks, but using separated computers. Musical tabletops ...

Information Visualization on Interactive Tabletops in Work vs. Public Settings

Digital tabletop displays and other large interactive displays have recently become more affordable and commonplace. Due to their benefits for supporting collaborative work—when compared to current desktop-based setups—they will likely be integrated in tomorrow’s work and learning environments. In these environments the exploration of information is a common task. We describe design considerati...

Application of quality function deployment (QFD) to improve product design: The school furniture case

Today Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a powerful development method whit a wide range of applications to translate customers’ needs into technical requirements for achieving customer satisfaction. The current study demonstrated a QFD analysis to improve school furniture design in Tehran as the baseline of Iran. Accordingly, we extended the widely used QFD method into a complex set of custo...

A New Group Data Envelopment Analysis Method for Ranking Design Requirements in Quality Function ‎Deployment

‎Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is an objective method for priority determination of decision making units (DMUs) with the same multiple inputs and outputs. DEA is an efficiency estimation technique, but it can be used for solving many problems of management such as rankig of DMUs. Many researchers have found similarity between DEA and MCDM techniques. One of the earliest techniques in MCDM is...
